at the big board to show you exactly where the fire burned. the fire burned just east of interstate 80. there is macro plastics, and this is where travis air force base is less than 2 mi. from the plastics factory. our we had about 13 fire trucks and 50 fire fighters on scene battling the blaze. is a large commercial area. fortunately this fire has been contained to that building because just next to the building is east bay fire. and we all know how flammable tires are. fortunately, the fire has been contained. >> here is a check on the weather conditions. fairfield down to the southwest of were the fire is burning, ticket to the wind speeds. it is coming from the west and going to the east. it is bad news for the air base, but good news for those in fairfield. we have definitely seen breezier conditions than this, can now our wins, the temperatures 83 degrees. the wind around the area is rather calm. typically this time of day we could get wind gust in the upper 20s or right now the winds are a little calmer. now i just snapped a picture, and you can see a little smoke in here this

much more news to come. >> a portion of highway to 37 was closed afternoon after a big rig truck slammed into the center divider and was caught on fire the driver was killed. this happened in the eastbound lanes of to 37. charles clifford was in the south bay and has details. >> according to the california highway patrol the driver of a big rig truck carrying a load of dirt loss control and witnesses say the truck slammed into the center divider. >> that collision overturned the vehicle and trap the driver in the vehicle and then the big rig caught on fire. >> the driver was unable to escape and died before the rescue crews could arrive. chp had to shut down traffic in both directions for several hours exactly what caused the driver to lose control is still under investigation no one else was injured in the accident and they were able to open all leas by 7:00 p.m.. as of late tuesday afternoon the driver of the truck had not yet been identified. >> a young teenager is recovering tonight after being stabbed while walking to the dog park. san jose police say that sunny along wi

on scene. the big concern now, hotspots flaring up overnight. >> reporter: scorching flames shot several feet into the air for hours. the intense fire created a large plume of thick, black smoke that could be seen for miles. from the north and east bays to sacramento, this is how it looked from sky four. fairfield fire investigators believe the fire was sparked after an employee ignited a plastic bin while working with possibly a torch or welder. >> they were working with an open flame object around the bins on the outside of the building. as far as i know, this is something in the normal course of their duties. we used water and a light foam all day long on the plastic bins. the foam helps to cool the fire. it's very effective in putting out fires from hydrocarbon based fuels. >> reporter: firefighters managed to contain the fire to 5 acres had the back lot. approximately 45 employees were working inside the plant at the time the fire broke out. all of them escaped unharmed. jose nunez is an employee and was scheduled to be at work at 4:00. >> it's a lot of fire everywhere, you know. ye

in downtown oakland at fifth. in the midst of what is like, like traffic there's a report that there's a big rig that maybe one aside blocking lanes of freeway. not even with that, the chp has said it will not lift the restriction for big rigs on i-580 because they do not expect even with the lanes blocked that there will be a major delay on the nimitz north bound. again, the traffic loads are so like, and the details are little sketchy. if we do not know how many lanes are blocked, but the first report indicates that some lanes will be blocked what the big rig reported on its side on the nimitz freeway north bound through downtown oakland. presently you can see with green showing on the road centers, there is no back up. from here will get a quick bridge to check up, expect a like condition that the bay bridge. that is exactly what we have, for the san mateo bridge is problem free. this almost like the east bound direction in fact in a little lighter than on a normal day. your ride to the golden gate bridge only three lanes are available in the southbound direction. they're holding three on

towards concord past pleasant hill on 680 southbound and nearly to highway 4 on 242 southbound. big delays in both directions. there is no indication on when planes will be cleared. when the chp issues alert the believe planes will be blocked for 30 or more minutes. this accident is about 30 minutes old now. our other hot spot is a westbound on the bay bridge. traffic is nearly at a standstill. the back of this to the end of the macarthur maze and even the the the approach is battling back up. bear in mind that one hour ago there was no back up on the bay bridge toll plaza. when other bridges are not doing too badly. the golden gate bridge looks to be a good. although it is under fog when southbound. despite the fog it appears that we will have another sunny and warm day ahead. >> here is the view from our roof camera showing you the fog and also sunshine as well. temperatures in the '50s and '60s. the sun will come out this afternoon, mostly sunny and warm with inland spots getting into the low-mid-90s. we're going to continue cooling as we head towards the weekend. let's talk more about

fires. there was a big grass fire that broke out in of a point area. if a lot of people were nervous overnight. will tran is in a coin. we have dramatic pictures and questions this morning. was this related to july 4th? >> page and not know at this point. several acres of vines, this is one of three fires and broke out in an hour and a half. cordially and they stopped it from spreading down the road towards a chemical plant. cook it does not look like much, but when we put camera around we will show you how close to the homes are. it was a blustery, is that members carried over here, and that would have been ugly. look at how a spectacular the fire was out here on driftwood drive on or chicago highway. at this point, they do not know the cause of the fire. it is quite the role of here. highly unlikely that a fire would just combust in the middle of a field. they think perhaps fireworks played a role in this. no homes are damaged and there were no injuries. when contra costa county was fully staffed, the were on standby. there were able to put the fire out. >> much more ahead on the k

, is going to fall. i turn and all i saw it was just the airplane hit in the big explosion and the explosion was taller than the antennas so i turned around and drove in here, and i saw the airplane burn inside of the building for quite awhile. i did not even know what to think. i never expected to see that happen. i live near the airport and i always thought that this could happen one day but i never thought that it would be yesterday. i was thinking they are in their burning in there is nothing i can do. all i can do is watch everyone was calling the ambulance and stuff, so when they showed up they were pretty much, they had been burning for a while so that is really sad. >> he and his friends and say that they were thinking of trying to make a rescue attempt but the flames from the fire were too intense. new details tonight about the theft of the rear picasso self from the san for cisco our gallery this is the man that is accused of stealing that our work market lugo--mark lugo this is the artwork that he is accused of stealing it is estimated worth is about a quarter of a million dollar

the same location where the big earthquake happened in march and the tsunami but this one not as strong, just a little higher than 7.0. it happened about three hours ago back here in the bay area we are looking at temperatures much cooler today. a lot of fog is morning strong sea breeze today, that cooled off temperature significantly. san francisco did not make it out of the '50s. low 80s and to concord in livermore the temperatures of dropping about 10 to 15 degrees in some places fairfield 16 degrees cooler today than we had yesterday. this trend will continue where we had a lot of fog pushing into the bay, a strong seabury's and we will be in a pattern with very cool temperatures through the middle or possibly the end of next week. for tomorrow, look for temperatures in the '60s for set francisco and oakland, '70s for san jose, concord, low 80s. will off even more as a going to the beginning of next week. low 60s incenses: oakland and even the warmest spots inland will only make it to the mid-70s. i will let you know how long the cool weather will last coming up. >> is a sticky sit
